A raisin in the sun - Essay Example African-Americans endured racial segregation, which was available, since the hours of subjugation where they were exposed to insensitive acts by White individuals. The play, by Lorraine Hansberry, portrays the fights that African-Americans needed to experience in the mid 1900s in the battle for correspondence in the public arena. The play tends to topics of the pith of dreams as a notion that was broadly proposed in a sonnet composed by Langston Hughes. He expounded on dreams that were disregarded or delayed and contemplates if those yearnings shrink like raisins in the sun. This is delineated by Walterââ¬â¢s want to have cash with the goal that he can bear to cook for his family. The showcase of dreams and desires for a superior life isn't restricted to one race, yet it very well may be perceived in individuals everything being equal. The fundamental inspiration to long for a superior life is all inclusive independent of race, and it fluctuates in various individuals. Walterââ¬â¢s idea of the American dream is the belief system of realism which puts a lot of accentuation on the significance of cash and the things it can secure. In play, Hansberry shows how Walter begrudges Charlie Atkinââ¬â¢s cleaning business since it makes a yearly pay of $100, 000. Walter is blinded by his craving to gain wealth and accomplices with individuals of sketchy characters who end getting away with all of

In any case, it is his aspiration to be King, prodded on by his significant other and the witches that at long last lead him to demolition and we are left considering how such anoble' man can carry out such despicable things. Woman Macbeth and the Witches are more answerable for the homicides that happen in the play than Macbeth. At the point when Macbeth first hears the witches predictions, All hail, Macbeth! That shalt be King from this point forward he thinks of slaughtering the lord, yet then he figures he wont require to take care of business: If chance will make them ruler, why chance may crown me without my mix However, when Lady Macbeth catches wind of the predictions she quickly begins to feel that both she and her significant other should murder Duncan. She requests to the underhanded spirits to invigorate her to slaughter Duncan as she properly accepts that Macbeth is too pleasant and too ful o'the milk of human graciousness' to carry out the thing. She see thing in either dark or white and has none of Macbeth's capacity to perceive what may happen subsequently. She summons Damnation to complete thing and doesn't think about the outcomes, while Macbeth considers just punishment. Public Sector Agencies are Best Equiped to Fight Social Injustice Essay
Open Sector Agencies are Best Equiped to Fight Social Injustice With another President, in came the surge of another plan. Gone were the times of the Clinton time, a period of proceeded with interest in enormous government programs and a responsibility that the central government would help with mending cultural injuries. With President Bush in office, the social work network realized it was in for huge changes. Equipped with a plan predictable with his traditionalist convictions, President Bush approached with strategies that endeavored to scale down the government job in social issues and social work, to return capacity to the states as square awards, and to expand dependence available as an answer for issues. Like his dad before him, Bush needed an arrival to when helping a neighbor was something one outed of the integrity of the heart. To make the tax reductions he guaranteed occur, Bush needed to shave dollars from the government assistance programs directed by social laborers to the nationââ¬â¢s most discouraged residents. With help for religious social assistance offices, a desire for tuition based school vouchers, and an unremitting inclination to privatize what is referred to among strategy examiners as the ââ¬Å"third rail of politicsâ⬠(Social Security), President Bush had the option to work up a long-standing discussion inside the social work network (Zastrow, 1999). Social specialists started to ask, by and by, what was the best, most meaningful sort of conveyance to the destitute: open part administrations or private-segment administrations? The discussion over open and private social administrations is a consistent in the social work calling. To genuinely comprehend the discussion, the meanings of such organizations must be clear. Differences Between Rural and Urban Emergency Medical Services Essay
Contrasts Between Rural and Urban Emergency Medical Services - Essay Example Outskirts zones are the most inadequately populated zones of the United States. As indicated by the 2000 U.S. Enumeration, this region covers about 56% of the land and 3% of the U.S. populace, and incorporates provincial ranch land, characteristic assets, national parks, and army bases (2000 Update, 2002). There are a larger number of miles of country streets than some other kind of roadway in the United States, and it is on these streets that around 60% of lethal mishaps happen. With regards to the 60% casualty figure, country is characterized as anything flanking populace focuses of 5,000 or less (Complexity, 2004). The test for EMS in reacting to an accident scene gets more noteworthy in rustic zones on account of topography, separations, and spending limitations. By and large, the provincial territory EMS reaction times verge on surpassing that basic fateful opening past which death rates rise definitely (Complexity, 2004, standard. 19). This timeframe is known as the Brilliant Hour, and the capacity of EMS to show up at the scene in time turns into a factor in whether a casualty happens. Looking at urban and provincial EMS is troublesome in view of varying urban-rustic populace attributes and jobs for country rescue vehicle groups. An examination of administrations in Nebraska, for example (Stripe and Susman, 1991) indicated a higher level of older in the country province, twice that of the urban zone. Comparative propelled life bolster measures were applied in both rustic and urban regions. In North Dakota, an appraisal made between 1999-2001 (Rural Emergency, 2002) indicated that EMS in provincial regions were encountering huge issues due to: 1. Meager populaces over enormous geographic territories. 2. State and nearby governments in country territories with lower limit with regards to subsidizing through charges. 3. Country economies experiencing issues keeping up and updating administrations. 4. Reliance of country EMS on volunteer work force, not in every case completely prepared or adequately accessible. Outsider payers, for example, Medicare will in general view EMS as a transportation administration, not a clinical consideration administration. In spite of the fact that the general population has known about EMS's clinical abilities since the mid 1970s, numerous outsider payers keep on being unmindful of them following 30 years of EMS triumphs (Emergency: Future Challenges, 2006). Quickening Factors Affecting EMS The security net of the EMS is additionally influenced by a maturing populace, expanded number of car wounds and a blast of wrongdoing related wounds in metropolitan regions. . . . [and] wounds from ranch, mechanical and open air sport mishaps have overburdened EMS frameworks [in rustic areas] (Chang et al, 2001, standard. 1). Dependence on volunteers in provincial zones is far more prominent than in urban zones and the volunteer pool is getting drained. Essential income streams for EMS are expenses for administration (Medicare, Medicaid, private protection, private compensation, and unique administrations contracts. EMS is to a great extent a privately financed undertaking, and financing of country and wilderness EMS is a specific issue in light of low volume of brings in relationship to overhead expenses of full-time readiness (Center for Health, 2001). It Ends
It Ends First, a semantic distinction. When does a dayâ truly begin? Does it start at the stroke of midnight, at the sunâs first rays, or at whatever moment I finally decide to roll out of bed? As a college student with a highly irregular sleep schedule, I find the first two methodologies too regimented to be useful when attempting to frame my life in increments of âdaysâ. For documentation purposes, my last last day of school will begin with me rolling out of bed on a particularly warm Thursday morning in the middle of May. As an aside, it may or may not be of interest to note that my last penultimate day did not end until 4:05 am, courtesy of some late night lab work for one of my last final projects. But we arent here to discuss my last penultimate day. We are here to discuss my last last day, so without further ado, here is how it begins: 8:10 AM â" My phone alarm shatters the sweet silence of my 4-hour slumber, but I use ninja-like reflexes to snooze it. Multiple times. The only things that stand between me and the freedom of summer are 1) a 20.380 final presentation, 2) an HST.426 final project, 3) presenting this final project at a showcase, and 4) writing a 2-page reflection for 17S.914. But these things can wait. Right now, I need five more minutes of sleep. 8:37 AM â" I finally wake up, but not without a great deal of internal groaning and an overwhelming sense of regret regarding last night and my proclivities for procrastination. I take a moment to pull myself together before slipping into a dress and sandals (in contrast to my usual comfy T-shirt and shorts ensemble) before running out the door to make it to my 9am final presentation. Itâs a fancy kind of day. 9:05 AM â" Belvita breakfast biscuits are a crunchy, cracker-like ambrosia. Mumbling through mouthfuls of wholesome grains, I read through my slides and script a few more times as we wait for the rest of the 20.380 class and assorted guests to arrive. ***Ive included some supplemental powerpoint slides to hopefully fill in any gaps or answer any questions that might arise throughout this narrative 9:55 AM â" It is BacTelomereâs time to shine. Ten minutes and eleven slides later, everyoneâs socks have been (presumably) knocked off by our revolutionary new idea. The final presentation today has been a culmination of a semesterâs worth of researching, planning, failing, revising, head-against-desk-banging, and fine-tuning an innovative biological engineering tool to address the theme of the semester: overcoming biological barriers. 11:20 AM â" To celebrate everyoneâs hard work and the end of class, we all dig into a catered BBQ extravaganza, take pictures, and reminisce about the ups and downs of the last four months. I eat way too much pasta salad and peach cobbler, but itâs a celebratory kind of day, so why not. One down, three more to go. 12:05 PM â" I head back to the maker lab in building E25 to put the finishing touches on my final HST.426 project (the same one I was working on at 3am the night before). The four of us make last minute changes to the code and aesthetics of our final design and submit all of our final documents on the Stellar page just before 2pm rolls around. Two down, two more to go. 2:10 PM â" For the next three hours, we present our final projects to inquiring minds who have come to our HST.426 showcase. I give the same spiel about our Lab on a Spoon project multiple times while also eating fudgy brownies and chocolate cake. Despite a growing sense of fatigue, I have a lot of fun fielding questions and discussing ways in which future iterations of our kit might be improved. I also make time to walk around the room and checkout the other groupsâ projects, which include another lab on a spoon, a modular NanoDrop, and an insulin dispensing kit that caters to homeless populations. Especially considering that most of us dont have any background in designing or making things, Im quite proud of how far we have come. The whole event was live streamed on Facebook so if youre curious, you can check it out here: https://www.facebook.com/imesmit/videos/1908234159392157/ Three down, one more to go. 5:02 PM â" The instructor for 17S.914 has organized a Graduation Champagne party for all the graduating seniors. An impressive spread of tiny meatballs, quesadillas, fruit platters, cheese plates, assorted desserts, and of course, champagne greets me as I walk into the room. This is my third instance of free food today, but I persevere and eat some more. What can I say, itâs a celebratory kind of day. 5:30 PM â" As a member of the Biology Undergraduate Student Association, I have been invited to the Biology Undergraduate dinner which is hosted at the end of each year to honor graduating students and Course 7 award recipients. Despite my status as a Course 20 interloper, I lie low and mingle with professors and other biology-minded students while eating hors dâoeuvres and a delightful salmon in a cream curry sauce. The acapella group Resonance performs in between dinner and the awards presentation ceremony and the evening winds down with coffee and desserts. 11:23 PM â" Writing this post three days later, I canât actually recall what I did between 7:30pm and 11:23pm. Extrapolating from what I know about myself and my work habits, I imagine it was some medley of watching YouTube videos about food and movies, browsing random articles on the internet and maybe napping (?). Itâs a real mystery. Anyway, regardless of whatever happened in those missing four hours, I finally open a Word document at 11:23pm and hammer out one last two-page reflection on the subject of cultural appropriation for 17S.914. 11:47 PM â" I hit send. As my email and its pdf attachment are catapulted into cyberspace, I realize that it is over. No more projects, no more psets, no more presentations, no more midterms, no more finals. Thatâs it. Iâm done. Four down, zero more to go. 3:09 AM â" As I crawl into bed, I donât think the finality of it all has truly hit me. Not yet, at least. I still feel like a college student. I still feel like when I wake up tomorrow morning to start a new day, Iâll have another pset waiting to be done or another exam waiting to be taken. I still feel like nothing has changed. Maybe itâs another instance of the birthday phenomenon. You know, that phenomenon in which you never really feel like you are n years old until you have your (n+1)th birthday. It isnât until youâve gone through all the smaller moments, experiences, and days that make up your 21st year that you finally understand what it means and what it feels like to be 21. However, by then, youâve technically turned 22 and the cycle continues. There is a time lag between nominally becoming something and truly feeling as if you are that something. I have been a college student now for 4 years, but I didnât always feel like one. When I was a freshman, I felt as if I were entering into a brave new world. I was a high-school student in a college-studentâs clothes. Nevertheless, over the course of the last four years, I have finally gained, through adaptation and repetition, a sense for what it means for me to be a college student. Itâs more than just doing psets and taking exams. Itâs also some intangible state of mind that has been shaped and molded by the stress, the excitement, the failures, the successes, the late nights, the early mornings, the slept-through-alarms, the late-night snacks, the inside jokes, the friendships, the arguments, the compromises, the blank stares, the lightbulb-moments, the sleep deprivation, and the hundred other things that make the college experience what it is. Just because Thursday turned into Friday and I finished my last assignment doesnât mean that Iâll stop feeling like a college student overnight. Itâll take time for me to process the last four years and what awaits me in the next four years of my life. Iâll probably feel like a college-student in a medical-studentâs clothes for a little bit, but thatâs how it goes. Besides, just because Iâve closed one chapter of my life doesnât mean that I lose that part of who I am. Itâs all one big snowball journey anyway and as ages and labels come and go, Iâll keep on tumbling down the mountain of life, picking things up and letting things go as I barrel forward, growing into a fatter and fatter snowball. Or so the metaphor goes. I still have three more weeks to go before graduation. Iâm not quite sure what Iâm going to do with myself between now and graduation, but it will probably involve eating food, watching TV and movies, finally learning how to crochet tiny animals, writing some stories, reading the four books I currently have checked out from the MIT library (if not more), and hanging out with friends before I say goodbye. As June 9th draws near, I will probably have more closing thoughts to share on graduating and leaving MIT. But until then, I have to first come to terms with the sobering inevitability that my time as a college student is finite. And so, with the passing of my last last day of school, it ends. Report For Reinaldo Products New Investment Under Consideration Finance Essay - Free Essay Example
1) Should Reinaldo focus on cash flows or accounting profits in making our capital-budgeting decisions? Should we be interested in incremental cash flows, incremental profits, total free cash flows, or total profits? When undertaking a new project an organisation usually uses Capital Budgeting Techniques which gives a better understanding of the outcome of the project to the management by taking management decisions accordingly. Let us first understand what Capital Budgeting is: Capital Budgeting can be understood as a process or technique by which a financial manager or analyst can understand which amongst the different projects will earn the highest yield during the life of the project. It is a process which helps the management to determine if a project (e.g. buying new machinery or plant, replacement of machinery or investing in research and development) is worth investing. Companies always have ideas for many projects hence Capital Budgeting helps them select the best project with highest returns. While making capital budgeting decisions Reinaldo has to focus on cash flows however accounting profits also can be focused. However more weightage has to be given to cash flow. The movement of money in and out of a business is known as Cash Flow. The financial health of an organisation is measured by cash flow. Cash flow helps to determine the liquidity of an organisation, even though the firm is profitable it need not be liquid enough and can result in its failure due to shortage of cash. Preferably managers should make capital budgeting decisions based on Incremental Cash Flows and by discounting them to find out their present time value of money. Positive incremental cash flow states that there will be an increase in the cash if the pro ject is undertaken. Accounting Profits is another area of focus as it shows the total earnings of the project to be undertaken. Any project whose profits will be below the organisations required rate of return cannot be undertaken, therefore adequate focus has to be made on the forecast of the projects impact on its financial statements and the earnings it will provide to its stakeholders. As the project is supposed to be terminated after 5 years, we will have to take decisions based on Incremental profits. The profits will increase as long as the incremental profit is more than the incremental costs. 2) How does depreciation affect free cash flows? Depreciation is a non cash expense used in accounting which reduces the value of a tangible asset due to the assets wear and tear. Depreciation being a non cash expense reduces the total net earnings of an organisation hence resulting in the reduction of the total tax payable by the firm. While preparing free cash flows depreciation is first deducted from the earnings and then tax amount is calculated (i.e. the total tax amount payable by the organisation reduces), depreciation being a non cash expense is then added back again to the free cash flow statement. This means that depreciation does not directly affect free cash flow but has an indirect affect on the same as it reduces the cash outflow of tax payable. Table 2.1 showing the effect of depreciation on Free Cash Flow Earnings before Depreciation, Interest and Tax (EBDIT) ( ) Depreciation = Earnings before Interest and Tax ( ) Tax ( + ) Depreciation = Operating Cash Flow ( ) Incremental Working Capital ( ) Capital Investment = Free Cash Flow 3) How do sunk costs affect the determination of cash flows? The money which has already been spent but cannot be recovered is termed as Sunk Costs and is also known as Stranded Costs. These costs are incurred before an activity hence it is an outflow in the cash flow statement. A huge sunk cost can make an investment irreversible. A high sunk costs effect on the cash flow is significantly larger than those with low sunk costs. It is not possible to undo the a cash flow outflow which has incurred sunk cost, hence only the costs incurred in the future will be relevant as these cash disbursements can be controlled. 4) The Projects Initial Outlay Initial outlay is the initial net investment required for starting up a new business or a new project. The net cost which a will be incurred by the organisation for the start up of a new business or a new project is called as the projects initial outlay. The initial outlay of a project not only includes land building, plant and machinery but also includes the initial working capital required at the commencement of the project. For Reinaldo its projects initial outlay will include: Cost of Plant and Equipment. Shipping and Installation Costs. Initial Working Capital required. The above table shows that the Reinaldos total project initial outlay is $8,100,000 /- 5) The Differential Cash Flows over the project life Differential Cash flow is the Free Cash Flow of a project after taking into account the changes in its revenue, operating expenses, taxes, depreciation and incremental working capital excluding terminal cash flow. The Differential cash flows of Reinaldos project over its life of 5 years can be seen in the below tables. 6) The Terminal Cash Flow During the termination of a business or a project the net sale proceed of the firms assets, taxes related to capital gain and the release of its initial outlay towards the working capital is known as Terminal Cash Flow. At Reinaldo Products there is no salvage value of its plant and equipment hence only the realisation of its working capital will be its terminal cash flow. Therefore the Terminal Cash flow of Reinaldo Products = $ 1,560,000/- Table 6.1 below shows the calculation of its Working Capital as for Reinaldo only its liquidated Working Capital will be its Terminal Cash Flow. 7) The Cash Flow Diagram for this Project Cash Flow is one of the financial statements which shows the relationship between the net income and changes in cash balances, it reports the cash receipts and the cash payments for a particular period. A Cash Flow Statement is prepared under the following headings: Cash Flow from Operating Activities Cash Flow from Financing Activities Cash FLowfrom Investing Activities Cash Flow Diagram is a graphical representation showing the closing balances of the firms cash flow statements which is the net inflow or the net outflow of cash. 8) The Net Present Value. Net Present Value or NPV is the valuation of a projects present value of cash inflows with the difference of its present value of cash outflows. It is done by discounting the cash flow balances of the future periods to its present value and by deducting the initial investment. This is done by taking into consideration inflation and returns into account as the worth of a dollar at present will be much higher than the worth of it in the future. NPV plays a very important role in the capital-budgeting process for an investment or project to be undertaken as it recognises the Time Value of Money for the investment and its required rate of return. The decision rules of NPV are as below: When NPV 0 The project can be Accepted (Return is greater than the required Rate) When NPV = 0 The project is Acceptable (Return equal to Required Rate) When NPV 0 The project is Rejected (Return is less than the required Rate) The Calculation of NPV can be done as per the below fo rmula: Net Present Value (NPV) As per the given project at Reinaldo and taking its forecasted cash flows for the 5 years of the project life with the Required Rate of Return being 15% the NPV for the project under consideration for Reinaldo Products is $ 16,744,053 /- NPV can also be calculated using an Excel spreadsheet as solved in Table 8.1. The Internal Rate of Return Internal Rate of Return or IRR is the rate of return or the discounted rate which makes the present value of the cash flows equal to its initial outlay. In other words IRR is when the discount rate used in Capital Budgeting forces the Net Present Value (NPV) of all its cash flows for a proposed project to be equal to zero (NPV= 0). IRR is also known as Economic Rate of Return (ERR) IRR is most frequently used in Capital Budgeting to determine if the project is worthy enough to be undertaken. The decision rule if IRR is as below: If IRR = required rate of return The project is Accepted. If IRR required rate of return The project is Rejected. IRR can be calculated by using the below formula mbox{NPV} = sum_{n=0}^{N} frac{C_n}{(1+r)^{n}} = 0 As per the given project at Reinaldo and taking its forecasted cash flows for the 5 years of the project life its IRR can be calculated as below: Where, r = internal rate of return, when NPV is zero Putting r = 75 % N PV = 218 When r = 80% NPV = (-) 305 When r = 77.02 % NPV = 0 (approximately) Therefore Internal Rate of Return (IRR) = 77.02 % 10) Acceptance of Project? Why or Why not? After the preparation of all the forecasted future cash flows and keeping in mind the internal rate of return(as done above), to come to a final decision whether an investment should be undertaken or not the decision needs to be based on the below mentioned Capital Budgeting Techniques: Net Present Value (NPV) Profitability Index (PI) Internal Rate of Return (IRR) a) Net Present Value (NPV) The NPV of the given project is $ 16,744,053 which is greater than 0 b) Profitability Index (PI) The PI of the project is 2.067 c) Internal Rate of Return (IRR) The IRR of the project is 77.02 % The above project will be ACCEPTED as it is meeting all the rules of NPV, PI and IRR. NPV is $ 16,744,053 which is greater than 0 PI is 2.067 is also greater than 0 IRR is 77.02 % and is again meeting the rule for accepting the project. IRR being 77.02 % making the NPV of the cash flows to be equal to 0. The Return of the project is much higher than the Required Rate o f Return of Reinaldo Products. 11) Other two Investments with one-year lives. a) Calculation of Net Present Value (NPV) NPV = (Investment) + Cash Flow* PVIF(r, n) NPV for Project A = (195,000) + 240,000 * PVIF (10%, 1) = (195,000) + 240,000 * 0.9091 = (195,000) + 218,184 =$ 23,184 NPV for Project B = (1,200.000) + 1,650,000 * PVIF (10 %, 1) = (1,200,000) + 1,650,000 * 0.9091 = (1,200,000) + 1,500,015 = $ 300,015 Hence the NPV: Project A $23,184 Project B $ 300,015 c) Calculation of Internal Rate of Return IRR is when: mbox{NPV} = sum_{n=0}^{N} frac{C_n}{(1+r)^{n}} = 0 IRR for project A Where, r = internal rate of return, when NPV is zero Putting r = 20 %, NPV = 5000 When r = 25 %, NPV = (-) 3000 When r = 23.07 %, NPV = 0 (approx) IRR for Project B Where, r = internal rate of return, when NPV is zero Putting r = 35 %, NPV = 22,222.22 When r = 40 %, NPV = (-) 21,428.5 When r = 37.5 %, NPV = 0 Hence the IRR: Project A 23.07 Project B 37.5 d) If there is no capital rationing constraints, which project should be selected? If there is a capital rationing constraint, how should the decision be made? Capital Rationing is when a company limits or restricts the amount to be invested in its new project. Capital Rationing is imposed by the companies by either imposing a higher cost of capital or by setting a ceiling on specific sections. The reason behind imposing capital rationing can be because a certain company might have generated lower returns than their expected required rate in their past investments. If Reinaldo faces no capital- rationing then it should choose Project B as its NPV is very high at $ 300,015 also its PI and IRR are positive with 0.25 and 37.5 respectively. However if the company has excess of reserves and has an option of not having to choose only one project between the two, then it can even invest in both the projects as both the projects will provide returns higher than their required rate of return. If there is capital rationing constraint then it is better to invest in Project A as it provides good returns with lower investment. The capital in vestment of project A is $195,000 which is $1,005,000 less than that of project B. Also with lesser investment project As NPV, PI and IRR is 23,148, 0.12 and 23.07% respectively which means that the rate of return is much higher than the companys required rate of 10 %.
